HMAS CASTLEMAINE

This is a 180' twin screw corvette from WW2. She was last used by the RAN for exercising the men in firefighting and damage control. As a result, when the restoration group took her over in 1973, she was a real mess. and incomplete. A lot of hard work has resulted in her being restored to original order throughout. She is owned and operated by the Maritime Trust of Australia and a credit too them. The pictures show it. She has been steamed recently.

Sorry, I thought I took a lot more pics than this. The engineroom is quite dicky and hard to get a decent picture.

She is well worth a visit to Melbourne Australia. Just take a ferry to Williamstown and make a donation. This one has got to be saved for posterity.

There is another one Wyalla which has been hauled inland somewhere in Queensland. I guess some entrepreneur type will make her into a coffee bar and restaurant. They all seem to. Trouble is that a ship in or out of the water is a funny shaped building and still needs a lot of maintenance.
