This delightful boat was built for the NZ
Government in March 1903 tobe carried on boatd the Government steamer Hinemoa. Originally
fitted with a 10hp Union petrol engine, this has been long lost and the present 10hp
Kelvin is the fourth engine since the Union. She was bough by the McCallum family and kept
at their island Pakihi near Ponui. The McCallums sold her to the present owner five years
ago and she was extensively rebuilt with a new cabin. There is plenty of work to do to
make her accommodation more livable for over nighting and the owner potters in between
using her.

She is an excellent seaboat as one
would expect with her provenance. In her 100th year she is well
looked after and we hope she will make another 100 years with ease. The Government called
her Hinemoa's Number 2 Boat. McCallums caller her Peter (as she appears in the book) and
the present owner tends to call her Hinemoa.
