| The good ship "Polaris" has taken refuge at Whangateau for a
completion of a rebuild started some years ago. She was built as a pilchard fishing boat
in Cornwall in 1935 and fished there and in Wales until the early 50s when she was
converted into pleasure use. She was spied by a colonial on holiday and shipped out to
Australia and later to NZ in the 60s. She has had two owners since and was brought ashore
several years ago for much needed repairs. Sadly the owner died after replacing the oak
grown frames and the clamp. She has languished since. She was built of pitchpine on oak
by Pearns of Looe and her full history is known
We will restore her to good health as time allows. |
