This is the most
marvellous collection of steam engines. It has been assembled at Tokomaru just south of
Palmerston North in the north island of New Zealand. Colin Stephenson gathered his collection from all over New Zealand. Engines such as the huge Corliss of which I have shown a part of the valve gear is a testimony to his determination to save fine machinery from extinction. Most of the collection is under cover and is regularly steamed. Nothing is worse than a dead steam engine covered in cobwebs or worse still rotated by an electric motor or running on compressed air. Various locomotives and a Fowler traction engine can be seen at various times in steam.
